The Cost of Not Buying A DirectBuy Membership

As an eight year employee of DirectBuy I have decided it is time to actually reveal a little something about the cost of membership. While many have attempted to explain the cost of a DirectBuy membership I believe it is only fair to take a look at what it costs not to have DirectBuy. The example I will use comes from the personal experience of my analyzing the purchases of my parents since I started with the company.

Admittedly, when I started at DirectBuy I had only recently left a retail store after two years in the computer department. This experience made it quite easy to see the value of the membership immediately. In fact, a recent purchase I made with a coupon, during a sale I was patiently awaiting having had privy to it, and with the application of my employee discount could still not compete with the true cost price revealed to me during my interview. So compensation as an employee or no I immediately felt compelled to spread the word about the service.

After being hired and despite the adage of "a man can not be a prophet in his home town" I immediately told my parents about this company I just found out about myself, including explaining the membership dues. Their response of course was that it sounds great but that they had no need for any such service as they had just moved into the home they built only two months before. Rather than me selling them on the benefits they sold me on why they had no need. Yet another sales adage.

Anyway after plenty of years to observe the purchasing habits of my parents while being on the inside it is high time I share the cost of not joining DirectBuy. Keep in mind my parents are in no way above average. My father is an electrician and my mother is a homemaker and they have a total household income well below $100,000. They also refuse to use credit cards. They believe that, aside from a house or car, if you can not pay cash, you do not need it.

To demonstrate the high price of life without DirectBuy I will review the purchases my parents have made over the years and only after I started at DirectBuy. Also, I might point out my father will settle for very little less than excellent quality items and they must all be brand name. He is also a shrewd shopper that shops online first, several stores second, and haggles third.

I will only mention items where I am certain we carry the exact same brands and will show comparisons for items that I checked the prices on and can not mention brand names. These are all rough estimates rounded down from my parents prices and up from what I remember looking up afterwards including shipping and handling. How do I so clearly remember the figures? I repeatedly used them every time they bought something to remind my employees of the benefits.

Items purchased I never compared prices on include a mailbox, storage products, blu-ray player, dvd recorder, surround sound system, pressure washer, leaf blower, tires, coats, work boots, mini fridge, sofa table, linens and comforter, dog bed, rugs, grill, artwork, countless toys for presents, and other various gifts I have seen given, and certainly many other things that I have not noticed or am unaware of.

All these items listed were items available through DirectBuy. Not similar, they are the exact same. Items that nearly every household will purchase over the course of time, amounting to only about $2000 per year, and most of which can not be anticipated. In fact my parents were just telling me about the washer and dryer showing their age and needing replaced.

I never harassed my parents about joining and as with anyone that brings up something they bought retail I will always agree they got an excellent price. Having found that doing otherwise only offends and causes people to justify buying retail. Similar to the many people that passed up the offer for DirectBuy membership and yet still feel compelled to express why they were so smart in doing so.

DirectBuy has introduced tiered memberships and even short term options and I will not break those down or give any specifics regarding these. You can even get a free trial without a credit card or payment by clicking here. Anyway, the greatest disservice done to my parents was my having revealed the dues eight years ago. I will say that at that time the dues were $3600 for an entire ten years including renewals. Meaning that had they viewed that as an investment rather than simply a fee they would have saved $3400 just on the items I have compared the prices on. Nearly a one hundred percent return on investment in ten years!

That is well beyond any investment opportunity I am aware of today and my parents had just built a home prior to even hearing about DirectBuy. Not to mention that ,since 2001, they have not made one single purchase that would have completely paid for the entire membership. Which I have seen happen countless times.

To all the sales people out there consider this a lesson on how dangerous it is to reveal price before showing benefits. To anyone considering DirectBuy view this as a realistic picture of what DirectBuy can do. Sadly, I fear that as a result of my having done so that I have doomed my parents to endure neverending retail fees for as long as they buy things. Which does not appear to be coming to an end anytime soon.

Proud To Be A Reviewer

I know it has been awhile but I just stumbled on a novel idea that I have to share right away. This site called ReviewStream.com offers user reviews on all sorts of topics and businesses. They are all supposed to be from independent contributors and I have no reason to believe otherwise.

What really sets this site apart is how they encourage you to contribute. They offer monetary compensation for qualified reviews. Roughly $2 per review which only takes a few minutes to write. Before paying they simply want to ensure your review uses proper grammar and gives a clear review including your personal opinion.

Anyway, please share your expertise, check out the reviews, and give someone a vote on a review. Contributors receive additional compensation for good ratings from readers. Sounds like something more sites will be doing very soon once this one starts stealing rank especially during a recession.

Why Does The Recession Continue In America?

Despite the inclination to place blame on our goverment or corporations the responsiblity for a receession falls squarely on the shoulders of those amidst the challenges. What I am about to say may not win me many friends. It simply amazes me that in America so many are asking for a job when opportunity is all around us.
Perhaps the fact that I have been in sales for so many years has made me a bit calloused to excuses. Having managed and lead so many others to be success it still amazes me that so many people expect to be handed everything. The unfortunate thing about this country is the fact that our abundance has created a significant amount of complacency.
Regularly hiring people it is just incredible how little people are willing to do to maintain a position. While many people claim to be willing to do whatever it takes to make money yet very few actually act upon those claims. Most people seem to prefer comfort to achievement and this is very disconcerting.
As a proud American I find inspiration in our history and place my faith in an eternal constitution that enables individuals to accomplish great things. What does not inspire this same faith are leaders that encourage and enable failure. Supporting corporations and industries that are failing is only reinforcing the status quo. Change is important and the politicians are doing everything they can to prevent these changes to gain voters rather than support innovation.
Many politicians are pumping taxpayer dollars into failing companies rather than encouraging laborers to pursue new careers and redevelop themselves. Even worse, those very same laborers are the reason this recession continues and new jobs are not being created. In the United States 80% of residents are employed by small businesses yet we allow stimulus funds to be pumped into the big businesses that only employ 20% of citizens. The rational behind these decisions are appalling and I am losing faith in our ability to correct these poorly made choices.
It is has become obvious that the majority of people expect to be handed the means to ensure their basic needs. Our government exploits this by ensuring menial labor jobs rather than grow our economy. Keeping in mind that more than 90% of the top 1% of earners are self employed it would make more sense to provide loans to small businesses and entrepreneurs. Simply give taxpayer dollars to consumers in the form of a loan. Which do you think would have helped our economy more; give $3 trillion dollars in loans to failing corporations or $10,000 to every single resident in the US?
Would you rather have gotten a personal loan for $10,000 to start a business or give the failing banks, car companies, and retailers $3,000,000,000,000? You know what actually happened and you know about our current situation. Needless to say, if the people you voted for are in office, it is as much your fault as theirs.
This is not to beat anyone up or blame the opposing political party. Considering that my own party has not lived up to it's own philosiphies for some time. Just keep in mind next election year that the people we put in power chose failing corporations over you. Was that really a change you could believe in?

Where Can You Find Legitimate Secret Shopping Jobs?

Quite a few people close to me were surprised when I mentioned I had done a couple secret shopping jobs over the past month. Telling others about it usually met with skepticism and disbelief. Just like online survey sites I imagine less than one percent of sites discussing secret shopping are legit. From what I found most were selling the information I intend to give you for free right now.

You may already know that it is illegal to charge someone money for secret shopping. So how are these companies selling the opportunity? They actually are not selling the opportunity, they are selling a list of companies that are supposedly legitimate. I say supposedly only because I have not and will not pay for such a list to verify the information.

Let me also point out that secret shopping requires a bit of real work. You must pay close attention to many areas of the business you shop, may need to take pictures or collect information, shops can take as long as one hour and more, and then you need to fill out a survey regarding the visit giving explanations for your yes and no answers. The upside is being reimbursed to make a purchase or buy a meal you might have purchased anyway and getting some extra money once in a while. In one month doing about 7-8 jobs I made $100. Considering time spent that's little more than $10 per hour.

What kind of secret shops have I done? One day I spent an hour just calling 4 locations of a company and asking questions. I ate at a restaurant I really like anyway. Visited an apartment complex and went on a tour. Went to three branches of a bank and inquired about an account. The nice part about all this is that I never laid out a dime to do any of this, chose each job on my time, and it put some extra money in my pocket. Now I also have a secret shopping resume which allows me access to more jobs.

So where can you find these jobs. Rather than list all the different companies the best place to start is a secret shopping jobs board. There are only two I use and you may be aware of others but these two screen every company that posts on their site. When you go to these job boards you can search available jobs and then you are directed to the individual secret shopping companies site. You register with each company individually. The added advantage to starting at the job boards instead of visiting each secret shopping company is that many secret shopping companies offer jobs in a specific area. Maybe the list you buy for $9.95 gives you 650 secret shopping companies but there are only six that appear to frequently offer jobs in my area.

Without dragging this out I will also mention that the job board sites do offer certification programs to that train you and give you added value in the secret shopping world. They can supposedly increase your eligibility for secret shopping jobs. I have not been certified and never paid out anything, nor have the job boards tried to sell me certification. They are simply there if you want the added expertise. As with my survey site blog, these are not affiliate links and I receive no referral bonuses for telling you about this.

Are There Any Legitimate Online Survey Sites That Pay?

Do an internet search for yourself and you are likely to discover that one survey site after another is little more than an attempt to sell you free trials. Most the internet survey sites I have found simply ask you to try Netflix, Blockbuster, Columbia House, online schools, and any number of gimmicks. Certainly seems understandable that most people have given up any attempt to find a real survey site.

Rest assured real paying internet survey sites do exist and in fact they must. Market research companies need the opinions of consumers and they will pay you for your input. Frankly, my best guess for why they seem so difficult to find is because the rampant scams have far greater SEO(search engine optimization) skills and as a result Google will index them better.

Even more irritating is the fact that some bloggers are taking advantage of a consumers desire to uncover legitimate sites. While researching for this article it appears that some have gone so far as to indicate that they have found legitimate survey sites and yet still refer you to companies doing little more than promote their affiliate links. Let me also point out the latest survey scam I found, survey sites that ask you to sign up for a free trial and take a survey on your experience. Do not buy that hype, please. Always consider the minimum cash out amount as well because this can sometimes be so high as to prevent the possibility of ever cashing out.

So let me get to the point. Are there any legitimate survey sites out there? Only one that I am aware of despite extensive research. They are American Consumer Opinion and I put my word on their legitimacy. Need further assurance? Click the link and you will find no affiliate code and outside of the trust I may earn by referring you, there is no financial gain for me. They generally pay $4 per completed 20 minute survey and have no minimum cash out. Keep in mind they look to find people that fit specific criteria, you may need to complete several 2-3 minute screener surveys per paid one, and there are limited surveys available.

Is there really only one legitimate survey site? Certainly not, except despite my hours of concentrated searching and too many personal sign ups with subsequent unsubscribes I have found no other. If you have found one please share and I will research it personally and update this post. If you post a link to yet another scam survey site rest assured I will post a blog focusing solely on that site in an effort to expose them. Otherwise you will notice that I will avoid targeting any specific survey site negatively.

Blogging To Make Money Online

A friend recently asked me to share this so here goes:

Frankly in a very short time blogging I have managed to earn money doing it. As a result I've been asked to share exactly how this works. Please do yourself a favor and do not pay for those Google for dollars, blogging for money, or any other system to teach you how to make money by blogging. Blogging to make extra money is realistic yet many seem to have the impression that it requires expertise of some sort. Really it is quite simple and hopefully this post will help.

First set up an account to start blogging. I suggest blogger.com over wordpress and many other blogging sites simply due to ease. After you have some copy(content you can reorganize and adjust) you can start looking for other blogging mediums and repost the same blogs after they are posted. This will likely be discussed at another time.

Then start writing about anything you are interested in. Blogging is any opportunity to share your knowledge. You do not have to be an expert and no one person knows everything about anything. You can even share your journey in the discovery process and may save others from countless searching hours on the internet. Just open up and let it out. We need more bloggers and everyone has something relevant to share.

Monetizing your blog on blogger is quite simple and really I never expected to earn money from blogging alone. Promoting other things that I use to make money online attracted visitors that clicked on the links Google conveniently placed on my blog. Then Google gives me 50% of any pay per click revenue they generate. Pretty cool since setting up my blog was free and easy.

Please start a blog. There are so many marketers dominating blogging that the average person needs to contribute and challenge them. Update whenever possible and you will find it gets easier to think of content over time. Sort of like a photographer that notices more great Kodak moments the longer they have been photographing. Yes, there are ways to improve search ranking, increase revenue, and generate followers. Those things will come in time and even though I don't know everything about any of those I will share my journey as I discover how(without laying out a boatload of dough).

I will end by mentioning to anyone considering starting a blog that blogging is kind of like getting a date. Women don't generally date the most intelligent, the most attractive, or the smoothest man. They usually date the one that's willing to put themselves out there and ask them out. Afterwards they determine whether they are worth their time after reading them for a while.

Thereby forcing many of us less affluent network marketers out of the network entirely. Meanwhile the Pizza Hut corporation, rather than the families participating in this unique concept, will ultimately seize a ridiculously large percentage of the commissions earned through Blastoff.

We can not allow the Pizza Hut corporation to prevent us as Blastoff members to from earning nice commissions through this incredible concept solely on buying power. We have the buying power and the power of voice through or telephones and internet. We must spread this thing so fast that by the time Pizza Hut slaps on the first box top flier the person buying that pizza will already be members. The earning potential of Blastoff is too great to pass up especially since it is free to get started. Some associates apparently are stating otherwise so let me correct them, YOU DO NOT NEED TO JOIN PRE-PAID LEGAL to join Blastoff. Blastoff is completely free and the savings on wireless products alone will amaze you. To make money you only need to spread the word to others about Blastoff's free money saving membership.

NFL And Pizza Hut To Promote Blastoff?

Browsing the blog scene there appear to be numerous postings regarding the NFL and Pizza Hut promoting their own Blastoff Network pages when public launch arrives. There are even figures attributed to the investment Pizza Hut is making to promote Blastoff. The figure repeatedly quoted is $30 million dollars.

This information appears unverifiable despite my best efforts. Where some fellow Blastoff bloggers obtained this information is beyond me and I am surprised they would post anything like that without a verifiable reference. To all those that may have personally heard this information leave my lips let me apologize for buying into hearsay and not researching this information prior to utterance. In an effort to provide evidence of this for a blog post, and ensure it was factual, I searched and searched for hard facts and came up empty handed.

Regarding Pizza Hut I first spoke with a Pizza Hut employee(which is no guarantee of accuracy) and this yielded no result. What I did discover was an article discussing Pizza Hut's promotion of a Blast Off. Not the Blastoff Network as so many are attempting to point out. Pizza Hut apparently is planning to slap a logo on a Russsian rocket being launched in the near future. The launch of this rocket will prompt an entire marketing campaign that from the estimates I have uncovered will not reach the $30 million cited in many blogs.

If you want the truth here's the PDF of the Pizza Hut And Blast Off promotion. Considering that Pizza Hut is owned by YUM!(YUM)a publicly traded company it is highly unlikely that this information would be kept a secret. Not to mention YUM! owns KFC and Taco Bell as well so they would likely promote these companies in the same way.

What about the NFL and Blastoff connection? Again there is no evidence that this will take place either. Where anyone received this information from is a complete mystery to me and the worse part is that it reflects poorly on the Blastoff Network and Pre-Paid Legal to post information that hasn't been verified. Please, if you have any real information regarding these relationships let me know. Otherwise, please stop repeating this rumor. The Blastoff Network does not require any hype to grow like wildfire. It is fantastic already.

Do We Really Need Mobile Internet Sites?

Our mobile phones and smartphones are becoming a major tool for searching the internet while away from our computers. However, I wish to challenge the notion that internet site specifically designed to accommodate mobile technology is essential. The capability of mobile technology increases exponentially with each new release enabling us to easily maneuver the internet. So why must we scale down the internet to fit the device?

Why am I even asking this? Simply because mobile sites are limiting features I am accustomed to using on my PC and even can access from my Blackberry. With increasing frequency sites are detecting my mobile browser and automatically forwarding me to their mobile site. To make matters worse many sites, Google for example, has eliminated or never offered the option to view the site normally. How assumptive these sites are to assume that I prefer their mobile site.

My initial impression of mobile sites was generally good. Thankful for a simplified version of a site that loaded faster and offered functions even my smartphone struggled to access. Over time, instead of expecting mobile sites, I have adjusted my mobile browser to fit the internet. Now when I visit these sites I am forced into a mobile site without features I was now accustomed to on my phone.

Looking forward I want smarter phones, not dumber internet. With the improvements in our mobile technology I cannot foresee a long term future ahead for mobile specific sites. Dumbing down internet sites in the recent past seemed logical when our phones could not handle basic features of a site but that time is coming to an end fast. So if nothing else will website developers please, at least, include an option to choose?

Recession Means Opportunity To The Innovative

During times of financial difficulty many people are understandably dealing with significant hardship. However we must not allow feelings of despair and the negatively focused media blind us to the incredible opportunities that surround us. Many times we limit ourselves by narrowing our focus to one type of job. You will discover that by exploring every category of job listings there are opportunities to help others in a wide variety of ways.

There are people looking for others to complete simple jobs like moving, small maintenance work, even cleaning. If you are unemployed you are in a great position to assist people like this. Not to mention you may make a connection that could lead that you to another full-time position. You may simply be looking for ways to make extra money in your spare time and these can present a viable option.

Many years ago a very successful gentlemen that me that it is important to create multiple streams of income. This man earns well over one million dollars a year and owns many productive companies. His companies include several locations of a free and tries business, I'm moving company, of video production company, and a few smaller side businesses. Although his income still far exceeds my own he instilled in me a sense of service and awareness of my eternal independence.

Today more people are becoming aware that they are always self employed. Whether you work from home or someone else provides you with a job you will be paid in proportion to the services you provide and the solutions you deliver. My experience is in marketing and my passion is for promoting great businesses that can help others in some way. Earning a living in a variety of ways by helping companies and individuals promote services and make money ensures that I will never be without a job.

These services include online money making and money saving opportunities promoting internet marketing companies, legal services, identity theft protection, a clean energy company, several others. You can even secret shop, take surveys, and read emails to generate additional income. In this day and age there are so many ways make money. You discover these by stepping out of your comfort zone and keeping an open mind. The best thing I have ever done was force myself into a position that forces me to seek different options aside from a regular paycheck.

PPLSI - Blastoff Launch Delayed

Hello Pre-Paid Legal Associates,

We have seen your excitement and efforts build towards the
Blastoff launch and are incredibly excited to see success
from this program! We are now anticipating millions of

Are You An Online Shopper?

Are you an online shopper? This information can save you money and could potentially earn you money. A new internet site owned by a company called Blastoff will publicly launch on October 11th. They have created a site that is intended to be your “launchpad” to the internet.

The site offers a customizable homepage that allows you select your favorite channels for news, music, videos, blogs, video games, and more. You can also access an internet mall with over 400 internet partner sites. These sites include offers exclusively for members of the Blastoff site and cash back on every purchase. Meaning once a month you will receive a cash back check for the purchases you have made.

Personally, the first thing I researched was a new cell phone. When I went through Blastoff there was a phone that I was interested in and is regularly $349 which is now available to me for $199. Any phone that would normally cost me up to $100, they now will give me for free. In case you are wondering I have T-Mobile.

Anyway, Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc announced in early September that they had arranged an exclusive partnership which allows associates a two week window to spread the word prior to public launch. Rather than spell out the full web address I have kept it simple and temporarily set up forwarding from one of my own domain names www.infinitenothing.com.

So how can you make money with this? Simply become a member of the Blastoff site and spread the word about the savings and opportunity. You earn money based on the purchases made by those you refer and the overrides will be ten levels deep.

How much is membership? Completely and 100% free. This service's intention is to become viral. If you are unfamiliar with the term in regards to internet marketing, it means they believe everyone will know about this service within 90 days of launch because it's free and since you can earn money by sharing you will want to share it with everyone. Therefore awareness of the site will spread like a virus.

Where are we?

With the amount of striving I can do I want to stop and ask the question? Where am I? Just for today I believe we can benefit greatly by putting the brakes on for at least a second and notice, very simply, our breathing. Heavy, light, sporadic. Noticing that when we notice our breathing we begin to relax. When we relax we truly focus. Still, focus on your breath. Our breath supplies us with life continually. This is how we find renewal. Why do you think we feel refreshed after a good nights sleep? When we relax we allow our body to return to a state of healing primarily through our breath. I could spend days explaining the benefits of deep breathing. Thoughts creep in. Let them come and let them go. This is the nature of the world. Let's look for harmony before perfection. In sharing this I hope maybe my experience might lift another. We must remember to be what we are in every succesive moment in the present. We must break from from the restrictions placed on us by others. The world was designed by a greater intelligence and this loving source made us who we are for a reason. We are all special and unique and the more we acknowledge this inside ourselves the more the outside world reflects this. Accept and embrace life. Face the world with love, faith, and complete confidence in who you are. I believe in the God in you.

The Start of my Selling Career

When did my sales career really start? Thanks to the influence of sales leaders like Zig Ziglar I would have to at least go back to my first job. As Zig says, we are all in sales, in one way or another and I would have to say that delivering newspapers was my first sales job. In fact my newspaper business contained certain aspects of a sales career I only recently recognized.

A newspaper is a healthy combination of both product and service. It is reading material, reporting, and the possibility of home delivery. Like a book or magazine a newspaper is a material product. While reporting and delivery are services provided. In fact the advertisements within a newspaper are a service to many that connects consumers with other products, services, promotions, and events. Without a huge discussion on the benefits of the newspapers and how they influence our lives I'll focus on how my newspaper route shaped my sales career.

Interestingly I don't remember ever being told no while asking for new subscriptions. However, I certainly remember receiving healthy commissions on newspaper sales. None of those things are presently in my possession but I know they included things most kids had like baseball or football cards, comic books, and video games. In fact I had the nicest bike in town that would have cost me a years worth of delivery money earned in several months with new subscriptions. Undoubtedly, as any salesperson will agree, I must have received many no's to reach the yes's for such rewards. This was a reminder to me that although I will receive many more no's, than yes's, in my sales career the rewards of the yes's are the only things that should enter my mind while selling.

Not every newspaper carrier was as ambitious as I was and I rarely meet anyone that delivered newspapers, without the help of their parents, for as long as I did at such a young age. I started shortly after turning 12 and continued delivering until I was almost 16. I delivered seven days a week and even took on a morning route for a year and extra routes when others were sick or on vacation. This may make you wonder how I made time for my family, friends, and school. Unfortunately, it didn't leave much and a year after adding a morning route I had to drop it because my grades reflected the time put into my routes. In fact, my life was incredibly out of balance in pursuit of my many toys. I had the toys that others wanted but didn't have the time others had to enjoy them. My second lesson learned was that I must make time to enjoy family, friends, and the fruits of labor.

It's been pointed out in many management books that incentives motivate more than money and I'm sure you can see this was the case for me. Money was never really my driving factor, the toys were. Though I must say that the recognition, relationships, and appreciation received were my greatest rewards. My customers were the reason I had a job and I did all I could to show them my gratitude. I listened to their stories when I delivered, paid attention to their pets, and would go out of my way to place the newspaper wherever they asked. Without realizing it, I was putting people first, and as a result I have many great stories to share, one I will share before closing.

While delivering the newspaper shortly before Christmas an older lady I delivered to apparently waited for me to arrive that day. Of all my customers she was the least demanding and yet the most deserving of extra attention as frail as she was. She waved me to the door and handed me an envelope explaining that it isn't much but it's all she could give. Frankly, I rarely expected tips, perhaps only partly from those that demanded special treatment. For example, inside the side screen door under the carport. Anyway, as I mentioned, this nice lady never asked for anything more than a daily newspaper. I thanked her kindly for whatever was in the envelope, internally guessing about a dollar or two, and departed. To my surprise, inside the envelope was one twenty dollar bill for my efforts. Another lesson learned, you never know who your best customer's are until after the service is provided, so treat every customer like your most important one.

Why I joined Pre-Paid Legal Part 2

While awaiting my day in court I'll mention that I discussed this story and sought the advice of many people. I spoke with friends and relatives that, most of which, said I had little to worry about. I was told to simply explain the situation in court and the officer or judge would likely be understanding. I also considered the worst case scenario so I attempted to discuss this with a few attorneys. Called for a couple free consultations and was given, not legal advice, an estimate that it would cost $600 to have an attorney at the magistrate. When I asked if they thought the officer or judge would be understanding they said if you lose at the magistrate level it will cost $1200 each incident to handle an appeal. Thanks for the advice but, no thanks, for those figures I'll take my chances.

My first hearing arrives and I am scheduled to appear before Bruce Roth in Lancaster city. Not overly worried, I attempt to discuss this with the officer when I arrive. Surprisingly, she seems to have a completely different demeanor than the first time we met and has no interest in lowering the citation. We go before District Justice Roth and things only get worse. The officer explains her side and even mentions that I was pulled over the next day as well, too. Apparently she spoke with the other officer which explains her new attitude. Anyway, given the opportunity to speak, I explain and I am interrupted by the judge and he chastises me for not changing my address(he obviously didn't listen to a word of my story) and then promptly issues a sentence of guilty and directs me to the payment window. That was fast for such an unusual situation.

I immediately decide to file an appeal and headed home to prepare. While sifting through the paperwork I now notice that I have received a citation from the second stop. So much for an understanding officer. Anyway, I again plead Not Guilty and again was before a magistrate. This time I had the opportunity to explain fully, unfortunately, this District Justice stated that her hands were tied and must find me guity because I lacked a document to verify I had spoken with the Magistrate in Scranton. She was even kind enough to show me what document I should obtain for an appeal.

My first appeal arrives and this time I am feeling confident, having done some research, and with little argument the Judge finds me Not Guilty for the Driving under Suspension because I hadn't received notice of the suspension. The second appeal did not go as smoothly despite my doing even more research to prepare. To begin with, I arrived in court the for this appeal, and presented my argument. Based on my argument the Judge continues the hearing, giving the District Attorney more time to prepare. That doesn't even sound reasonable, however true. Needless to say when the appeal resumes, despite my better arguments and the document, the latter D.J. said would save me, the Judge upheld the Guilty verdict from the District Justice. Which ensures my license will be suspended as well.

After all this, I am in the process of preparing my application for an occupational license, and wander to the Pre-Paid Legal site. I originally heard about this site from having listened to a Robert Shemin audio book. He mentioned multiple streams of income and said people constantly contacted him for legal advice. After discovering Pre-Paid Legal he simply referred them there. He said Pre-Paid provides legal advice for a monthly fee. Not wanting to hire an attorney for help with my occupational license either, I look into Pre-Paid. At this point I find out I can become an Independent Associate and after reviewing the compensation decide to take a leap of faith and market the service full time. Not to mention they are now helping me obtain my occupational license and even pointed out the simple thing that would have saved me a year ago. Maybe you picked up on it too.

Why I Joined Pre-Paid Legal Part 1

Back in July of 2008 on a Friday morning I was pulled over for an expired inspection sticker. Knowing full well it was expired I understood the potential for this situation and was not overly surprised. My reason for doing so was procrastination and an awareness that the result would likely be equivalent to a parking ticket. Worst case scenario they tell me I am not allowed to drive the vehicle and must have it towed for inspection. Most likely they issue a ticket and let me be on my way.

This stop provided a surprise I had not anticipated. The officer informed me that my license is currently suspended. What?! Why? Was my response. To which the officer replied that she was unable to provide me details of the underlying reason and told me to contact PennDOT. She told me my citations would be mailed and that although I am not allowed to drive she is leaving the scene now, hint hint. At this point I contact PennDOT immediately and they explain my license is under suspension for an unpaid citation from Scranton, PA and directed me to contact them. I asked why I hadn't received notice of this and even verified that PennDOT had my current mailing address and they could not provide an explanation.

Anyway, I contacted the magistrate in Scranton, PA and they told me I still owed $41.50 on a citation I received for a broken taillight over two years ago. They also pointed out that it appears that I was making regular payments and they simply stopped. The lightbulb went off and I realized that I had changed banks right about that time and must have forgotten to switch that automatic payment to my new bank. I then asked why they hadn't informed me that they were about to suspend my license. They said they tried but I had moved and they didn't have my current information. I said that doesn't make sense because I've kept PennDOT current on my address. They apparently don't crosscheck that information. No wonder there are so many criminals free on the streets!! Of course I doubt that very many criminals update the state on there whereabouts anyway.

So the issue appeared resolved and they sent notice to PennDOT informing them that I had responded to the citation and they could now lift the suspension. Problem is I was still cited for driving under this suspension I knew nothing about. Family and friends told me to just explain all this in court and it shouldn't be an issue. Then Saturday, yes the day afterwards, I'm pulled over again. This time I explain the situation right away and the nice officer let's me continue on my way. Monday I call PennDOT to verify this is taken care of they inform me I must still pay a restoration fee to have my driving privileges restored. Not wanting to argue I simply pay the restoration and await my day in court to explain the situation.

Why I quit my job during a recession

After significant consideration I decided to make Pre-Paid Legal my career. After eight years with DirectBuy, or two months shy of, I quit my job and headed out to do it on my own. In fact with DirectBuy I had earned a management position and ended up back at the front line, that story will come, and I was tired of answering to someone else. In all fairness I had the support of my girlfriend in nursing and already had two people signed up to start. Although I wouldn't recommend following the same path I'll explain the decision as best I can.

Why take such a big risk? Having been in sales for ten years I had the sales expertise to represent any quality product or reputable service and the discipline to push past rejection. What seemed riskier to me was having someone else determine my future. How many people have been displaced because of the poor decisions of an employer? In fact in sales you always determine your own paycheck. The problem is despite making sales that provided my employers with continual business I would only see a commission on my initial sale.

Which leads me to reason number two, compensation. Pre-Paid offered residual income that is only found in select sales positions. One example would be insurance. However there are so many companies offering insurance I couldn't decipher which company was the best. I also didn't want to have to train into this field only to end up working for someone else again. The closest thing I would find to residual anywhere else in sales would be repeat business. Either way I'm still under the thumb of an employer.

Have I considered the other opportunities out there? Of course I have. I've seen Melaleuca, MarketAmerica, Quixtar/Amway, Tahitian Noni, and any number of opportunities. Being in sales for such a long time has introduced me to many network marketing companies. Unfortunately these companies didn't offer a product or service that, to me, stood out as something the majority would want or need. Pre-Paid seems more like a legal “insurance” and in a recession, maybe more than any other time, insurance is a smart way to protect yourself and your family.

Hopefully you see, I didn't take this step lightly. Work from home business opportunities like Pre-Paid are not get rich quick schemes. Those who become successful in this business, as in any business, invest significant time and energy. Keep in mind, security is internal and if you want something better you must take a chance and go for it. With the grace of God, the support of my family and friends, and the Pre-Paid Legal team to help me I'm confident this will be the best decision I ever made and I'll continue to enjoy the freedom that too many only dream about.
